Skateboarding lost a legend today. It’s a very sad day indeed.

Tony Vitello, the son of the founder of Thrasher, announced Phelps' death on the magazine's Instagram by writing "Jake Phelps was 100% skateboarder, but that label sells him way too short, because beyond his enormous influence in our world, he was truly an individual beyond this world,"

The cause of death is not yet known but it was said to be suddenly and easy according to a family member. Phelps was a legend in skateboarding since he first stepped on a board at the age of 13. He later went on to become the editor of Thrasher Magazine. He held that position for over 20 years and will be missed greatly by all that knew him. Our hearts go out to his friends and family.
