Although news of his passing came a little premature we are deeply saddened to hear about the loss of Bushwick Bill, legendary rapper and former member of the Geto Boys. Here at LacednLit we’re tight with Brooklyn Projects and Brooklyn Projects was tight with Billy.
Bushwick Bill’s Bio
Richard Stephen Shaw (December 8, 1966 – June 9, 2019) was a Jamaican-American rapper better known by his stage name Bushwick Bill. He was best known as a member of the pioneering Texas hip hop group Geto Boys, a group he originally joined as a dancer in 1986 as Little Billy. He went on to become one third of the best-known incarnation of the group, alongside Willie D and Scarface. On May 1, 2019, Shaw revealed that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. On June 9, 2019, reports emerged that Shaw had died, but news of his death was later refuted by his son. However, it was subsequently reported and confirmed that Shaw died later that day at a hospital in Colorado. – courtesy Wikipedia
The Brooklyn Projects Connection
Dom Deluca founder and owner of Brooklyn Projects took the news hard and posted this heartfelt message on IG.
“Bill as some of you may or may not know was a fixture at Brooklyn Projects. It was his hangout. His office. And we were his family. He started coming to the shop in 2002. Friends with @brooklyndom1 he soon became friends with @themuska .. recording a bunch of tracks for him and even crashing at Muska’s and Dom’s house. Many of you met Bill at our shop or at agenda or @complexcon where Bill would work our booth and crack people up with his banter and his personality. We are all gonna miss him. Fuck cancer. RIP”
