The Boondocks anime series actually began as a comic strip which ran from 1996 to 2006.It was a daily syndicated comic strip written and originally drawn by Aaron McGruder. In 2005 it became a series and the show begins with a black family, the Freemans, settling into the fictional, friendly and overall white suburb of Woodcrest. It’s a mixture of cultures, lifestyles, social classes, stereotypes, viewpoints and racialized identities. The series ended on June 23, 2014, but it was announced that Sony Pictures Animation would be producing a reboot of the television series set to premiere in 2022 with McGruder’s involvement.
