It’s time for our LacednLit Friday Focus where we take a deeper dive into streetwear brands on the come up. This week we had a chance to spend a few minutes with Brian Reid @og_R3ID, one of the original founders of Osiris to talk about sneakers, life and the future of the brand. Here’s how it went down.
Hey Brian, Thanks for taking the time. Really appreciate it. What have you been up to lately?
Thank you. I’m always happy to talk, especially about shoes. As you know I left Osiris a while back and I started a couple other ventures and I wanted to spend time with family. I guess I had forgotten the time, effort and capital it takes to build a new brand. It is exhausting. It’s a lot more difficult spending your own money than it is someone else’s. You know? That’s a wake up call for sure. So for now those ventures are put on ice and will live to see another day.
So tell us about this reconnection with Osiris. How did that come about?
Interesting story. Vice Magazine contacted me about doing a feature. As the conversations kept growing, I talked with some peeps at Osiris and we came to an agreement that this would be a great time to reconnect.
Talk about this Forever Collection. What’s that about?
The Forever Collection is paying tribute to the shoes that put us on the map. The Graf, The Grimz, The Digginz and the D3. We’re going to reintroduce the classics that will be pretty much true to the OGs, but will be slightly updated. Each shoe will be limited and numbered something that appeals to collectors. We also have some really dope apparel in the works. Pretty stoked about that.
What do you like best about what you do?
I love being able to travel to see new places, meet new faces and learn about materials, textures, and the production process. I’m fascinated by all of it. I’ve been all over…truly blessed to do what I do.
We know the history behind the D3 and the controversy over who really designed it. I know the story has been told over and over, so without rehashing the A$AP Rocky and Dave Mayhew beef, tell me who designed the D3 Brian.
To make a long story short, the D3 was designed while I was in Pusan, Korea with Tony Magnusson. I led the design and was mainly responsible for its upper, and Magnusson was mostly responsible for the outsole. That’s the real on the D3.
Love it. That takes care of that. So tell us about a few brands that influence you today.
One that jumps out is #EverybodySkates. Alphonzo is killing it. But I’m really more influenced by art than by brands. Guys like @joeking and @bobbytribal aka Bobby Ruiz are a couple favorites. If you’re not familiar check out their IGs.
We will for sure. Good stuff Brian. So what’s on the horizon for Osiris.
My vision is to help the company regain its heritage, to be smart to keep moving and adapting and trying new things. You never know what’s going to be a hit. You just have to keep digging. You’ll be seeing some great things and it all starts with the Forever Collection coming soon.
So there you have it straight from the mind of Brian Reid. While we wait for the Forever Collection to drop you can still cop the D3 2001 and other classics plus some newer Osiris styles. Below you’ll find some lit pics of Brian being Brian and the current Osiris D3 2001 lineup.
